The E. 1488 Association has recognized the value of preserving existing green space for the long term health of the county and area
communities and is evaluating the possibility of developing a Lake Creek Greenway similar to what is being developed along Spring Creek.
The Montgomery Trace and Woodforest preserves could act to anchor such a greenway.
Those of us who intend to remain in Montgomery County should seriously think about what we want to leave the next generation. The
historical approach is unsustainable and would leave us with limited recreational areas, increased flooding and water pollution.
Given the pace of development we don't have much time to begin identifying and preserving those areas with the greatest recreational
and environmental services value.
As a first step toward developing the Lake Creek bottomlands as a community asset, the Association is working with the county and the
Bayou Land Conservancy to develop a 64 acre tract along Lake Creek as a natural area for hiking, bird watching and nature education.

The East 1488 Community Association sponsored a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training class from March 4
through April 22, 2010.
CERT trainees receive instruction in disaster preparedness, disaster fire suppression, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue,
disaster psychology and team organization. The course ends with a disaster simulation; participants receive CERT certification and emergency kit.
If you would like to know more about CERT Training or would like to sign up for CERT Training,

In August of 2009, as part of the committment of the East 1488 Community Association to assist area residents in becoming more prepared
for emergencies and catastrophic events, the organization held a public forum to discuss Emergency Preparedness in the East 1488 area.
The panel consisted of Randy McDaniel, Chief Deputy Sheriff, Emergency Management Coordinator, Montgomery County;
Frank Green, Chief Designated Representative, Montgomery County, Environmental Health Services; Charlie Riley, Manager of Precinct Operations,
Precinct 2 Commissioner’s Office, Montgomery County; Dr. Todd Stephens, Supervisor, Magnolia Independent School District, (MISD); and Wendell Baker, Jr.,
Waste Water Treatment, BaCorp. The panel members made presentations on the level of preparedness of the various agencies. Each presentation
was followed by a question and answer period. Attendees also offered suggestions about how the area could become better prepared and how we
could facilitate communications during emergencies, when communications and power supplies are down.
If you have questions or suggestions concerning Emergency Preparedness, you can submit them to the board at

The 79th legislature of the State of Texas could not pass legislation to increase the enforceability of bandit sign laws-the senate voted down HB 599, HB 2051 and vetoed HB 600 on a technicality in the early morning hours of May 26.
Bandit signs are the "trash on a stick" signs that dot the shoulder of roadways and are commonly used by homebuilders and quick weight loss scams.
They are illegal, but the local government is not able to take action against the lawbreakers. The legislature was asked to solve the problem with enforceability of these laws.
